Animal-Assisted Therapy
At the Kanter Center, we believe healing can take many forms-conversation, connection, movement, creativity, and sometimes...a wagging tail. That is why we are proud to introduce Zoe, our certified therapy dog and newest member of the Kanter Center community.
Animal-assisted therapy is a research-supported approach that uses the natural bond between humans and animals to enhance emotional, social, and physiological well-being. Interacting with a trained therapy animal can help reduce anxiety, improve mood, strengthen communication skills, and support sensory regulation, and create a sense of safety that makes therapeutic work feel more accessible for people of all ages.
How Zoe Supports Healing
With her calm temperament and intuitive presence, Zoe helps clients:
-
Lower stress and anxiety through soothing physical contact
-
Build confidence by practicing communication and social engagement
-
Improve emotional regulation with grounding, sensory-friendly interactions
-
Feel sage and supported during challenging therapeutic moments
-
Experience joy which is an essential part of mental wellness
Zoe does not replace therapy, she enhances it. She brings warmth into the room, helps people open up, and reminds us that healing can be gentle, playful, and full of connection.
